SEA KAYAK GUIDE

Spend your summer in the wilds of Michigan’s Eastern Upper Peninsula. Woods & Water Ecotours is based in a rural community nestled among the protected waters of the Les Cheneaux Islands archipelago. Guided birding, biking, hiking and kayak trips are primarily led within the islands, but also extend to Drummond Island and to other destinations within the EUP region. This dynamic position assists with day to day shop operations in booking reservations, answering phone, leading kayak trips, kayak rentals, instruction, trip preparations, and gear handling, and overnight trips. Shop responsibilities include retail sales of outdoor apparel and accessories, and sales. $300 week, plus tips. Pro-deals available. Seasonal position-May 25th-mid Sept.

Position Requirements:

  • Passion for the outdoors & learning
  • Responsible, creative problem solving, attention to detail
  • Friendly with an interest in connecting with clients and providing quality service
  • Interest in learning about small business involved in nature tourism
  • ACA or BCU Sea kayaking skills & certification required. Additional training provided.
  • Current CPR/First Aid
  • Some familiarity with Great Lakes ecology or willingness to learn
  • Computer savvy with Microsoft publisher, Word and email.
  • Helpful if working toward a degree in Adventure Travel, Outdoor Recreation, Fisheries and Wildlife Biology, Outdoor Education or Ecotourism.

BICYCLE MECHANIC & GUIDE

Spend the summer in the Les Cheneaux islands working for Woods & Water Ecotours.  Bicycling is a growing interest in the Eastern Upper Peninsula region and particularly along Lake Huron communities interested who are moving forward on a bike path construction.  Be a part of the cutting edge movement to build a “bikable” community.  Responsibilities include day to day repairs of incoming bikes, ordering supplies, maintaining rental bikes, and retail sales of outdoor gear and booking reservations.  Lead bike tours and assist with community events where promoting bicycle use is appropriate.  Interest in riding bikes is essential!  Assist with sea kayak trips at times. $300 a week.  Pro-deals available.  Seasonal position-June 1-Aug 31.

Position Requirements:

  • Passion for the outdoors & learning
  • Capable and comfortable repairing and assembling new Cannondale bikes.
  • Responsible, creative problem solving, attention to detail. Organized.
  • Friendly, with an interest in connecting with clients and providing quality service
  • Interest in learning about small business involved in nature tourism
  • Some kayaking experience or willingness to learn a bonus. Training provided
  • Familiarity with bicycle culture & racing helpful.
  • Computer savvy with Microsoft publisher, Word and email.
  • Helpful if working toward a degree in Adventure Travel, Outdoor Recreation, Fisheries and Wildlife Biology, Outdoor Education or Ecotourism.
